being an sss member has its perks from time to time -- well of course that's if you're a paying member (LOL).
about 2 weeks earlier i filed the 2nd part of my maternity claim to sss. yep there are two parts -- first part is when you have to fill up this form of notifying them that you're pregnant(i think you can notify as soon as you have proof of pregnancy) and the second part is when you'd submit the birth certificate of your baby or in sad cases ( proof that there was a miscarriage). thank God that this time, it's the happy case.
later last week, the check arrived ( am surprised that it only took a couple of weeks! i mean this is the government that i was dealing with ). and so the other day i went to sss to encash the check. again surprise surprise, there were only few people in the bank and so it was encashed in a breeze. i went home happy with few thousand richer =)
in case you're not familiar with these benefits ( as i have learned from few people and they're surprised that you can actually claim benefits even if you gave birth overseas --- for those who are living abroad but are paying their contributions ), you can get a detailed information from the sss website. click here or if in case the link doesn't work here's the url : http://www.sss.gov.ph/sss/index2.jsp?secid=789&cat=4&pg=null
if you're an sss member, i think going through the benefits portion of this website is worth the time.
btw, this scenario is for a voluntary member like me.
